Its A Brand New Year, Lets Love Our Home!

Happy New Year 2023! Lets Love Our Home!

As we begin this New Year, I’ve decided to focus more on the things that I love. We all lead very busy lives, with full days and weeks and we are all scheduled with lots of back-to-back appointments, meetings, schedules, etc. So when we come home from a long day at work, we want to be able to love coming home. So as we are closing out our first month of 2023 and entering the month of February, (which is synonymous with Valentine’s Day and all things love), I can’t help but think about how much time we actually do spend in our homes, actually loving the place we get to call home. Of course, we want our homes to be a place we love, a place to feel comfortable with at the end of a long work day. Home should be a place where you can settle in for a long cozy evening with your loved ones, cook up your favorite foods, or unwind for a relaxing weekend. This should be a place where you want to gather with your family and friends and host a dinner party or birthday celebration, relax with your favorite book or magazine, host gatherings and parties. With all of our hectic schedules, leading such busy lives, we can’t afford not to love coming home. So with that, I’m saying, Let’s Love Our Home!

Read below for my favorite ideas on how to do just that to create the perfect home you’ll be loving forever.

1. Surround Yourself With Things You Love

First and foremost, surrounding yourself with items that bring you comfort, happiness and joy is the best way to create a space to fall in love with. Bringing in items to your space that you love, and that you know bring you comfort and joy will help you fall in love with that cozy nook or home. When you surround yourself with things you love, studies have shown that it helps with overall mood-boosting chemicals in the brain. So you’ll definitely want to assess your surroundings and throw out anything that isn’t serving you joy or bringing you comfort and happiness.

2. Cozy, Cozy

To help you create a home you’ll fall in love with, its easiest to start small. Finding little corners or areas throughout your home where you can create a cozy reading or sitting nook is ideally the easiest place to start. Adding a large overstuffed chair to help you relax with a favorite book and a glass of wine will help you create that feeling of calm and cozy. Next to your chair, you’ll want to add a small side table and a reading lamp, which will make your space more functional, bright, and accessible. Then hang some decorative artwork on the walls and a cozy pillow and throw blanket which will add the perfect touch of cozy for all your unwinding, and relaxing needs.

3. Heirloom Pieces

Bringing in family heirloom pieces or items that have been passed on can really add a personal touch to any space and helps honor those who’ve come before you as well as your family history. A cute little serving tray, stool, chair or a favorite end table or piece of art are all items that will help bring some character and cozy into your home to make you want to fall in love with your space.

4. Colors and Textures

What are your favorite colors and textures? Bringing those elements in to your space will also help create a space for you to love. By using your favorite soft blanket, pillow, or a specific color throughout your home, you are already creating a home to fall in love with.

5. Unique One of a Kind Pieces

Bringing in a few unique pieces of furniture, decorative items from your local thrift store or flea market is a great way to add character and charm to any space. Oftentimes, those pieces are made of quality materials and have a unique stain or patina to show its history. Bringing in these kinds of decorative furnishings and items really help to create that charming, cozy place you’ll love to call home.

With all the great ideas for creating a home you’ll want to fall in love with, may this New Year and upcoming Valentine’s Day help get you on the right track for a year you’ll definitely be loving throughout each and every day!

XOXO,

Gina
